Arcelor-Mittal, le plus grand groupe sidérurgique mondial, a racheté l'aciérie de Liège et souhaite désormais la fermer. La main-d'œuvre est licenciée, y compris Octavio, qui travaille au haut fourneau depuis des décennies. Richard, un artiste liégeois raté, ne veut pas accepter cela, d'autant plus qu'Octavio lui a un jour sauvé la vie.

Avec son ami Léon, Richard élabore un plan ingénieux : le kidnapping comme une performance artistique, mise en scène pour un effet médiatique. Le coup d'État réussit. Lakshmi Mittal tombe amoureux d'eux deux et une chaîne de télévision mord à l'hameçon. Mais soudain, les choses deviennent incontrôlables.
